workouts I have been loving lately

Working out has always been a huge stress reliever for me. Much like everyone else, my gym was temporarily closed down with the quarantine restrictions. Therefore, I have to turn to other options of getting exercise in. I definitely have hoped onto the Youtube and Instagram video workouts. I am loving all of the different type of “class” like workouts that are on those platforms.

I have been working out more than ever, and I am definitely starting to see some results. I wanted to compile a list of some of my favorite workout videos that I have done these past few weeks.

Workout List:

#1: 30-Minute HIIT Workout: I did this workout with my husband. Wowza, we thought it was the most difficult video workout we have done. It was a great, challenging, but quick workout. No equipment is required, which is a huge plus.

#2: Barre Arm Workout: This workout is only 10 minutes, but your arms will be dying by the third set of reps. I only use 2 pound weights with this one. I combine this workout with various other arm exercises when I focus on arms.

#3: Barre Bellyfat Burn Workout: This workout is short and focuses on the lower abdominal area. This workout is a great video to complete after a cardio workout or run.

#4: 30 Minute Barre Workout with Dumbbells: I used 2 pound dumbbells for this one. It was a quick but challenging workout. Barre workouts tend to be my favorite because they target every muscle group. I am always sore after them!

#5: 30 Minute Full Body Strength Training Workout: Here is another fabulous full body workout! This workout includes circuits that target every muscle group. I used 5 pound dumbbells for this workout.

Happy Sweating 🙂

My most frequently asked questions usually revolve around my hair and haircare. I wanted to put together a post containing my most frequently asked hair related questions. I also provided an opportunity for you all to ask some questions on a recent Instagram post. I will be including those questions in this post too 🙂

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – —

Question #1: Is you hair your natural color?:  When I was younger, my hair was bleach blonde. As I have gotten older, my hair has definitely gotten darker. My hair stylist says that I still naturally have about five different levels of blonde in my hair. About once a year I get a what is called a balayage. A balayage is where the hair stylist “paints” different highlights in for a more natural look. This definitely helps to lighten my hair and your roots aren’t as noticeable when your hair starts to grow out. My hair is on the darker side right now, so I am due for a balayage in the next month or so (if we every get out of quarantine).

Question #2: What shampoo and conditioner do you use?: Redken is definitely my “go to” when it comes to shampoo and conditioner. My hair stylist recommended this brand to me. I always wait for them to go on sale at Ulta. I think Target even carries them now! It smells amazing and I love all of the different types of shampoos and conditioners they have—from one that soften to ones that help to extend color treated hair.

Question #3: What helps to keep your hair looking conditioned?: I apply the UNITE 7 Seconds Detangler Leave-In Conditioner  after every shower. I always stock up so I never go without it. It makes your hair feel soft and smooth. It also smells yummy! Also, my hair is always SUPER tangled after I shower. This product saves me from so many tears. I combine this with my Wet Brush  and I’m set!

Question #4: Is that your natural hair texture? If so, how do you maintain it?: I do have more naturally wavy hair. To promote waviness, I sleep in a french braid every single night. The key I have found to waking up with awesome wavy hair is to put your hair in a french braid/braid when it is about 75% dry. I have found that if I put my hair immediately into a braid after the shower, I still have damp hair when I remove the braid–which means your waviness won’t hold as well.

Question #5: Do you use heat on your hair?: I very rarely use heat on my hair. I think that is what helps to make it grow so long and healthy. If you struggle with growing healthy hair, I highly recommend that you only heat style your hair when absolutely necessary. If you are going to use heat products, make sure to use a heat protectant.

Question #6: Do you wash it everyday?: I typically wash my hair every 2-3 days. I do tend to break that rule if I had a very sweaty workout though. There is nothing I can’t stand more than the feeling of super sweaty hair. Yuck. In between showers, I use the Not Your Mother’s  dry shampoo. My whole family (mom, sisters, etc.) are hooked on this brand for dry shampoo. It works wonders and it is also very inexpensive.

Question #7: Do you recommend any deep conditioning hair masks?: I have just started to recently dabble in the realm of hair masks. The first one I tried was from the brand, Ouai. I loved it! I definitely noticed a difference in smoothness when I used it. I’ve also heard sooooo many great reviews about the one from Olaplex. That one is on my list to try!

As always, don’t ever hesitate to ask me any questions! I am always happy to help 🙂

Jordan

I will NEVER pretend to be a beauty blogger. That being said, I do have my favorite items from the current Sephora Sale! I am my picks down below and why they are my favorite.

Sephora Sale

1. Olehenriksen Oil Control Toner: If you asked me three years ago, I would have been told you that it was crazy to spend $30 on what looks like a bottle of water. It looks like water, but this toner has saved my skin. I have very oily and acne prone skin. I use this after washing my face at night and it helps to control my very oily skin.

2. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: There is a reason why this is everyone’s #1 lip moisturizer. I have purchased this three times over now and it has been worth every penny. There is really nothing else in the market like it!

3. BareMineral Pro Foundation:  As I mentioned before, I am the queen of oily skin. I have spent years trying to find a foundation that lasts the duration of a normal work day. This foundation is practically permanent–not really, but you know what I mean 🙂

4. Tarteist Double Take Eyeliner: Confession time! When I first purchased this, I had no clue that this was double ended. I thought I was going crazy when I tried to use it and it suddenly turned into liquid eyeliner. I’m glad I finally figured it out because this eyeliner is amazing! The liquid brush is super easy to apply!

5. KVD Liquid Lipstick : On Instagram, I’ve been getting a ton of questions about the lip color that I have been wearing. This is it! Full disclosure, this liquid lipstick will stay put for a SUPER long time. It is amazing for long work days or big events.

plant based and dairy free alternatives

DSC_2226DSC_2200DSC_2175DSC_2228DSC_2147DSC_2137DSC_2250

My Outfit Details: TOP White Short Sleeve Blouse // SKIRT Blush Pink Floral Skirt  // BELT Straw Belt  // EARRINGS Blush Beaded Statement Earrings  // SHOES Nude Leather Heeled Sandals

If you were not aware, I have been a vegetarian for about 25% of my life! It is a personal choice that I made since I do not like the taste of texture of meat. In the past year of my food journey, I have also started to incorporate some dairy-free products into my diet.

Since many people are starting to transition over to plant based or dairy free diets, I wanted to recommend some food products that I love. It is important to note that none of the products in this post are sponsored. Instead, I am sharing products that I truly love to eat!

1. MIYOKO’s Vegan Butter: This butter is both plant based and dairy free. It is made out of cashew cream. I would be remiss to not mention how DELICIOUS this butter tastes. I have always been a huge fan of butter. This butter tastes even better than the classic stuff. It is a definitely a “must try” in my book. This company also makes other products, like cream cheese. I will be aiming to try those products soon.

2. MALK Almond Milk: For the past ten years, I have drunk a full glass of milk. Eek, I can’t do it anymore. The taste and consistency is not something that I enjoy. I do still use milk when cooking, making smoothies, etc.  This brand of almond milk is a dairy-free alternative. It is the only milk alternative that I have found that is also “gum free.” Most milk alternatives use gum as a preservative. This brand does not! Being completely honest though, this brand is $$$.

3. NutPods Coffee Creamer: About a month ago, I made the transition over to this brand of coffee creamer. If I am being completely honest though, this was a hard transition. I LOVE flavorful and sweet coffee creamers. This type of coffee creamer is fairly bland and not very sweet. One month into the transition though, I am starting to enjoy the taste. The just ordered the flavor that I linked here. It is limited edition and called, “Cinnamon Swirl.”

4. Power Crunch Protein Energy Bars (not vegan, but plant-diet friendly). These protein bars literally taste like a candy bar. They are crunchy and super tasty. When you are craving a chocolate bar, these are a great alternative! These are BY FAR the best tasting protein bar I have EVER had.

5. GoMarco Vegan Protein Bars: If you are looking for a vegan protein bar, this one is for you! These have a bunch of yummy flavors. I usually purchase mine at Trader Joes because I have found that they have a wide selection of flavors.

6. HIPPEAS Organic Chickpea Puffs in ‘Bohemian Barbecue’  : Wowza, these are absolutely amazing! I am warning you now, you will finish the whole bag if you don’t portion them out. My husband even loves these–so I count that as a wife win! We have tried several of the other flavors, but we keep going back to the “Bohemian Barbecue” flavor. They are vegan and contain a decent amount of protein for a snack. Enjoy!

I definitely have plenty of other recommendations, but I think that is enough for now 🙂 I will definitely do other posts in the future with plant based, vegan, dairy-free product recommendations! Enjoy 🙂

Books I have read recently

Even before quarantine hit, I started get back into the swing of reading! Reading was my favorite hobby when I was younger, so I am excited to start to enjoy this hobby again. I will be sharing the books that I read, a rating, and a short intro.

1. Crazy Rich Asians: (4.5 out of 5 stars) I’ve own this book for over a year and I just finished it. The reason why it took me so long to finish it was because I lost it after I started reading it. We moved a little over a year ago, and somehow the book got misplaced in a random box during the move. I wish I would have found it sooner! It is an amazing light-hearted book with a very interesting plot. This is a great book if you enjoy learning about different cultures and are need for a book that provokes some laughs. This book contains a plethora of interesting characters. I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series.

2. The Husband’s Secret: (4 out of 5 stars) The author of this novel, Liane Moriarty, is definitely making a name for herself in the mystery genre. I have read several of her novels and this one was probably my favorite of the bunch. If you are into mystery novels, this one should definitely be at the top of your reading list.

3. The Uglies Series: (3 out of 5 stars) This series was very popular when I was in middle school and high school. I never read it back then, but I stumbled upon the book in a book store several months back. It is a science fiction series that deals with the concept of perfection. I would have probably given this series a 4 out of 5 stars if it wasn’t for the ending. The first three books in the series definitely held my attention more than the fourth and final book.

4. What I am reading next: Get Out of Your Head (Rating TBD) I will be starting this book next! The tagline of the book is, “Stopping the Spiral Toxic Thoughts.” I have seen so many people rant and rave over this book, so I was definitely excited to get my hands on it! It is a faith based novel and I will be using it as part of my daily devotionals.

What I Have Been Up to During COVID-19 Quarantine

We are officially Day 10 (I think?) into our city wide shutdown due to COVID-19. Two weeks today, the school district that I teach for shut down for the time being. We are expected to return back to school one month before our district’s summer vacation, but now that is even looking doubtful.

I wanted to come on here and document what I have been doing during these times at home. I’m going to share the recipes I’ve tried, the books I have read, and other exciting life updates!

What I have been doing during quarantine…

#1: Graduate School: I started my online graduate school program last week. I finished my first week of classes yesterday. I really can’t help but think how perfect the timing was in starting my program. I am grateful for something to focus on during this scary time.

#2: Reading: I will be doing a “Book Review/Recommendation” blog post next week, but I wanted to share the book that I am currently reading and loving! I am nose deep into the novel, Crazy Rich Asians, by Kevin Kwan. Holy cow, this book is amazing! It is a fun light-hearted read that keeps you entertained. I am also loving the fact that I am learning about another culture.

#3: Baking: I made these cookies: Rachel Parcell’s Family Cookie Recipe. These cookies were delicious. She gives you on option of either using banana or coconut. We tried coconut this time, but I will definitely be making them again to try out the banana version. A real quick tip: This recipe makes A LOT of cookies–about 35 large cookies. If you want to make a smaller amount, either: (A) Cut the recipe in half, or (B) make the full recipe and freeze half of the dough.

#4: Cleaning: I definitely have not been deep cleaning my whole house like some people have been, but I did clean out my spice cabinet! Did you know that spices expire? I didn’t realize that until I was reaching for a particular spice and it had an expiration date reaching back until early 2018. Eek! I went through the cabinet and chucked about 25% of our spices.

#5: Online Learning/Teaching: Now this is the endeavor that has been taking up the majority of my time. We started online learning the Monday after our school was closed. That means that I only had one weekend to prepare to teach my twenty-five little kiddos entirely online. It was chaos. I am finally into my rhythm of teaching online and I think my kiddos are too. For all of you teachers out there, I have found teaching and posting assignments through Google Classroom to be the most helpful. I keep Google Classroom up on my computer throughout the day so I can responds to the questions they post in the comments. We also had our first Google Hangout Video Class Meeting today. It was about as chaotic as you would imagine it to be. I loved every minute of it though 🙂

I will definitely keep you updated on the things I do in the weeks to come. Hopefully these types of posts will spark some ideas for you as well! Stay healthy ❤

Jordan

There is a cupcake shop near our house that is literally the CUTEST. They make the girliest cupcakes and they have the chicest decor. On the backside of their building, they always have the most colorful wall. They change the paint every couple of months. This design has to definitely be my favorite one they have done.

If you needed a friendly reminder today: Do what you love.

Teacher Outfit: Black Dress

Since I am an elementary school teacher, I spend 80% of my week wearing a “teacher outfit.” I’m always on the lookout for cute, affordable, and comfy pieces to wear in the classroom. When the weather is warmer, you will often find me in a flowy midi dress.

With spring weather approaching, I am looking forward to wearing this black button front ribbed midi dress number. It is the perfect length for the classroom. The fabric is uberly comfortable. It can also be dressed up with heels (as pictured above) or dressed down with sneakers for casual Friday. If black isn’t your thing, it comes in a couple other cute colors.

Jordan
